Human rights at Menie

Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire Greens are supporting the families at Menie against threat of eviction if the Trump Organisation renew their request for Aberdeenshire Council to use their compulsory purchase powers.

Many people were shocked when the Scottish Government decided to allow the destruction of part of a SSSI to allow the building of Donald Trump's controversial housing, holiday resort and golf course proposals at Menie.

But matters took a turn for the worse when the Trump Organisation applied for and gained planning permission to extend the resort into five areas not in the Trump Organisation's ownership.    The Trump Organisation then started to discuss the prospect of using compulsory purchase orders (CPOs) to evict families from their homes.

Three families, the Milne's at Hermit Point, the Munro's at Leyton Cottage and the Forbes at MIll of Menie have made it clear that they do not wish to sell.    But on 1st October 2009, by voting down a motion proposed by Cllr Martin Ford, Aberdeenshire Council refused to rule out the use of CPOs against these families.

Parliamentary candidate for Gordon, Sue Edwards is working with 'Tripping Up Trump', the 'Scottish Green Party' and councillors Debra Storr and Martin Ford as part of the campaign to protect the Menie families from CPOs.

Sue Edwards said:  “If the Council does give in to Mr Trump’s demands, where will this end? Will the Council then take local people’s homes so other developers can have more land too?”

A YouGov poll commissioned by the Scottish Green Party revealed that 74% are against the use of CPOs at Menie.

There are also over 15,000 signatories to a petition.  If you wish to add your vooice to the campaign, please print this page, add your name, address and signature and return the petition to Sue Edwards, Hillhead Croft, Chapel of Garioch, INVERURIE AB51 5HE.

We first published this page on 4th March at 5:16pm, on 5th March the Press & Journal published a Trump statement.

Anne Robertson, Leader of Aberdeenshire Council

Don't force local families to leave their homes for Donald Trump's golf course!

We, the undersigned, call on Aberdeenshire Council not to use
compulsory purchase powers to force residents from their own homes on
or adjacent to the Menie Estate.
