The revelation follows Aberdeenshire councillors giving their support - on 19 May, at the Council's Education, Learning and Leisure Committee - to a policy on school closures that would see the Council bringing forward twenty-three schools for possible closure.

Aberdeenshire councillors have given their support to a policy on school closures that would see the Council bringing forward twenty-three schools for possible closure. SNP, Liberal Democrat and Conservative councillors voted to make a £2 million saving through 'primary school rationalisation' on 25 November last year as part of Aberdeenshire Council's response to the cut in its Scottish Government funding and the Council Tax freeze. Since then, Democratic Independent councillor Martin Ford, a member of the Education, Learning and Leisure Committee, has been raising concerns that in the order of twenty schools would have to be closed to achieve savings on that scale.
