Rhonda Reekie leads way in Vote Cruelty Free

Green Party candidate, Rhonda Reekie, has pledged her support for Vote Cruelty Free, a new non-partisan coalition of animal protection organisations working to put animals on the political agenda. Rhonda is the first candidate in Aberdeen to pledge to Vote Cruelty Free.

The alliance has sent its manifesto to all candidates announced for the next General Election and asked them to show their support for the issues raised. So far more than 300 candidates have pledged their support.

Rhonda Reekie said, “The treatment and protection of animals is important to me and to my colleagues in the Scottish Green Party. We must ensure that animals are treated humanely and with respect and not used for hunting and entertainment, nor their fur as decoration. We have to do our utmost to defend protected species and their habitats for future generations to wonder at!”

A Vote Cruelty Free spokesperson said, “Animal protection is an issue close to the UK public’s heart but this is often not reflected in current political debate. It is fantastic that Rhonda Reekie has shown she believes in animal protection issues as much as her potential future constituents in Aberdeen South; we are calling on all candidates to follow her lead by pledging their support for Vote Cruelty Free.”

Vote Cruelty Free comprises the BUAV, Compassion in World Farming, IFAW in Action and Respect for Animals. It covers a broad range of animal welfare issues including wild and marine animals, animal experimentation, hunting, the fur trade and farming.
